Monday Morning Tai Chi Training Tip #461

Original Chi

I recently received a question from an online student about original Chii. Here is my answer.

Hello,

I have been doing some reading about qigong and I have a (maybe more) theoretical question to put, which I think it is a little “controversial”, but very interesting. According to some tai chi masters like Yang Jwing Ming and Mantak Chia, the jing (sexual essence) is something that comes from our parents and cannot be added to. It’s like a savings account, we use it when our other energies are weak, not giving time for our body to regenerate the energy needed. It happens for example when we have bad life habits like bad sleeping, eating and are exposed to high levels of stress. I have found different opinions about this subject. For some people there is a possibility to increase jing and to others not. Off course, I know there is no certainty about these concepts but I would like to hear from you.

Many Thanks,

J.

Dear J.

Yes, I agree. Pre-birth chi is like a car battery. It is expected to last a certain amount of time, and will if you take good care of it. But if you leave your lights on for a period of time and the battery goes dead, it can be charged up again so it will work. But it takes some of the life of the battery away. If you do this enough the battery will completely die earlier than it was designed for.

Your pre-birth chi is designed to last your lifetime. Some people’s batteries are not designed well, or have some other problem and will not last as long as the average. There are batteries guaranteed for two years, four years, or more. In fact, I have a car I bought 14 years ago and it still has the original battery! One can take good care and it will last longer, but the battery you are born with is all you ever get, so conserve and pay attention to not wearing it down when you don’t need to (like leaving the lights on) by abusing the body mind through tension, stress, and improper living.

As far as I know, there is no way to replace a worn out energy system. Just take good care of what you’ve got, and be thankful for the life you have been given, no matter what the length.

Thanks for the question.
