Monday Morning Tai Chi Training Tips #454
Exploring the Moves
One of the best exercises to increase your awareness of each movement in Tai Chi Chuan is to break it down, one movement at a time, and explore all possibilities for that one movement. Do it slow, do it fast. Use a low stance, use a high stance. Add Fa Jing, change the breathing pattern, and most importantly, do it as big as you can and really let go into the essential nature of how the limbs are tied to the center at all times. From big, work your way to very small, and stay aware of how the center still controls the limbs. Find the smallest possible movement at the center, and then work your way back to large. Notice how the limbs get activated as the movement grows. Feel free to dissect each and every part of every movement and play with it. Don’t get too serious with it or the movements will not flow naturally. After all, Tai Chi is natural body movement directed by the mind.Think about the Buddha sitting or reclining with that lovely smile on his face. He knew the answer to happiness in life is a smile. You’ll go a long way in your Tai Chi form and push hands if you keep a smile on your face.
