Movement # 11 – Snap the Low Branch
Here I step in for a strike to the lower body. Be careful to protect the body by making a roof with the cane when moving in.
Turn out the left toe by pivoting on the heel until the toe faces halfway to the left direction. The body heads in the beginning direction.
The right arm brings the cane up to protect the head and upper body by swinging the handle end up in a counterclockwise direction. The tip is angled down at about a 45-degree angle. I am actually sticking to the opponent’s cane at this point. The left hand touches the right forearm.
Focus on stepping and sticking.
Continuing to step in, shift the weight fully onto the left foot and roll onto the right toe.
The cane continues to stick to the opponent’s cane, so there is basically no arm movement.
Focus on sticking.
Step straight ahead with the right foot. Toe faces the beginning direction. Don’t shift the weight yet. Keep the energy in the left Kua until you are ready to release it.
The cane is still sticking. Arms don’t change.
Focus on sticking.
Shift the weight onto the right foot. The torso faces the beginning direction. The body can lean forward a bit but be careful not to become out of balance toward the forward direction.
The cane strikes down by flicking or snapping the elbow and wrist. The tip is at knee level, with the arm fairly straight. Keep the left hand touching the forearm.
Focus on the cane tip.
