This Lesson Contains:

Movement # 27 – Single Whip Creeps Down

The first part of this movement consists of repeating Single Whip (Movement #19). From there we do Creeps Down. This is a very simple movement. The opponent kicks towards my head with a horizontal sweep. I retreat, duck, and finally catch her leg with my wrist. The next movement is the follow up to this block.

The opponent threatens from the front. As she starts her kick, I start to retreat.

Turn out the right toe to face slightly to the right of north. This can be done in a couple of ways. Either pivot on the heel, or, as is more common and useful, lift the right foot up and replace it backward. Be sure to sink deeply into the left Kua so you can do this without losing your balance.

The hands basically stay in the same position. The left hand relaxes and lengthens a bit.

Focus on the energy returning to the center.

Anna kicks towards my head. I sink back, and catch her ankle with my left hand.

As the weight is shifted back onto the right foot, sink the body down. The torso turns to face halfway between north and west. Keep the spine straight. If you lean forward, you will make the target, your head, easier to hit. Don’t let the right knee collapse inward.

The hands stay in the same relative position.

Focus on the body getting down and back, and also the back of the left wrist to attach.
