Lesson 10:

This Lesson Contains:

Push Vertical Knife

†† My opponent sees an opening high and goes for my neck. I bring the saber up and block her cut.

Bringing the saber up.

†† This is rather a simple movement. I donít move my lower body at all. The saber is brought up into a block by pivoting at the shoulder. The elbow makes a counterclockwise arc upward. The left hand is moving down the saber blade to end up providing a support for the block.

†† Focus on the opponentís saber.

The block is complete.

†† The saber ends by the upper body with the blade at about a 45-degree angle. The left hand is on the lower portion of the back of the blade. The heel of the hand is in contact with the blade. Donít use the fingers. Keep them out of the way. They wonít provide enough support. Donít let the right wrist bend for the same reason. Keep the shoulders relaxed and down as much as possible.

†† Focus on the saber blade.
